Objectives:
The Northern Ireland Energy Agency aims to secure the support and active engagement of Northern Ireland ’s energy users, particularly householders, in implementing strategies, programmes and measures to combat climate change. The Agency’s work will assist with Government targets as laid out in the Energy Strategy for Northern Ireland namely
- 1% electricity saving/annum over 5 years 2007 – 12
- A target for renewable energy generation of 12% of electricity consumed by 2012
- Develop support mechanisms to encourage enhanced programmes of renewable energy, CHP and energy efficiency
Core activities:
With 3 sites across Northern Ireland ( Belfast , Enniskillen & Derry), the Agency
- Manages a number of energy efficiency, renewable energy and low carbon transport initiatives (eg Cosy Homes, Heatsmart, Solar Smart, NIHE Education)
- Operates the Energy Saving Trust Advice Centre providing information throughout Northern Ireland
- Liaises & works with a range of partners including local authorities, housing associations, utility companies & government departments
